Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary analysing portrayals female characters in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit website that focuses on the representation of women in pop culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they appear in popular media. Furthermore she aims to create the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women and those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian, who holds the degree of Master's in Social and Political Thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. While a student at university Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights from a young age. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games was targeted by an internet-based campaign. It was not enough to deter her. It actually made her more committed to be a feminist as well as media critique. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency, an educational nonprofit that studies the ways women are depicted within the popular culture stories.
